Mini Mission Monday ~ (From the archives) Clutter Categories
Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and "fun" for you to achieve some quick decluttering. I love to throw in a good old clutter category set of  missions every now an again to get you thinking about what sort of clutter you have. So this week we will declutter something from each of the clutter categories I refer to on a regular basis and one or two less used categories I have … [Read more...]
Long Term Effective Decluttering
I have often included statements or advice in my post such as... Decluttering will get you nowhere if you reclutter while you declutter. Declutter excess __(insert item here)___. Not desiring stuff is a wonderful freedom. Reducing supply and demand of products is good for the environment. Keeping items "just in case" is futile if the items were never really necessary in the first place. ...and the list goes on. I make these statements and give this advice because most people declutter by skimming the surface of their belongings only removing the obvious things that are no … [Read more...]
A picture paints a thousand words
Like the title says ~ A picture paints a thousand words ~ so I will keep the text brief on this post and let the photos tell the story. This series of photos show the transformation of my craft space. It has been years in the making but I think I am finally at the point where I am happy to just let natural progression decluttering take over from here. That is, things will now leave as I use them up and not be replaced. So without further adieu please enjoy the photos. Today's Mini Mission Do you have too many accessories ~ Belts, bags, scarves, hats, hair … [Read more...]
Clutter doubts and counter arguments
I really enjoyed Cecily's post from Tuesday. I very much agreed with her that we need to be honest with ourselves in order to convince ourselves to let go of the things that have really just become a burden to us. Some of the things I used to find hard to let go of earlier in my declutter journey were... Storage containers once they became empty of clutter. The inner dialogue that would creep in at the point of letting go was ~Â But they are so useful what if I find I need them later on. And my honest response was ~ I don't plan on cluttering up my house again so I will make sure I … [Read more...]
My Linen Supplies
Read this comment from Sue D as it was the catalyst for today's post. I find it interesting that linen is Sue D's nemesis when it comes to decluttering yet I am not surprised. The thing with items such as linen is that eventually you are going to need some of them and that makes them hard to part with. Although I have decluttered my linen storage spaces on more than one occasion over the last two years, and am satisfied with its current state, there are still more things in there than are really necessary. I have... 5 sets of queen bed sheets for two queen beds in the house. Three … [Read more...]
Things I still have too many of
After 25 months of decluttering it is hard to believe that there are still some things that I have too many off. It's OK though because we are still happily working away at the excess one day at a time. I will however share with you below a list of some of those items. I will also explain the excess and why they are still here even though I am aware of them. Bath towels ~ I have weeded out the tatty ones and donated the extreme excess but the remaining ones will be subject to natural progression decluttering. That is, I will not replace them once they wear out. Sometimes it is just … [Read more...]

How strong is your retail resistance
It has been some time since I dedicated a post to consumerism and how that affects our clutter situations. The generation of items that become redundant in our home is near to unavoidable especially if you have a growing family. Children outgrow everything, clothes, shoes, beds, toys, books... even us parents eventually, 'hopefully". Therefore so long as there are kids around there will always be maintenance decluttering to keep up with the things they grow out of. As for us adults, all going well, we will wear our clothes out rather than grow out of them. Other things we use will also become … [Read more...]
Simple Saturday ~ Stationery Drawer Before & After
I think the modern age of computer technology is slowly reducing the need for stationery supplies in the home. I had every intention of using up my stationery supplies ~ a bit of the old natural progression decluttering ~ but here I am years later with just as much as when I started. This indicates to me that I would probably go to my grave with all this stationery if I don't find another way to declutter it. So I packed it up and donated it to the school down the street. I kept just enough to fit into one small container. Stationery Drawer Before You can see the enormous … [Read more...]
