Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.
Today there is no gimmick to the mini missions just plain old simple decluttering. Just find one item to match the  description provided in the daily missions below. It you don’t have such a thing just declutter something else that suits you.
Monday – A home decor item.
Tuesday – A pair of shoes.
Wednesday – A book or two.
Thursday – A worn out or outgrown clothing item.
Friday – A wad of papers ~ out of date bills, tax papers, manuals or warranties…
Saturday – Something from the kitchen
Sunday – Â Some kind of hobby or craft item.
Good luck and happy decluttering
Today’s Declutter Item
This candle was sitting in a bowl on a chest of drawers in my guest room. I felt it was one too many things adorning the surfaces in that room so off it goes to the thrift shop.
Something I Am Grateful For Today
The joys of maintaining a decluttered home. With less stuff on surfaces and less surfaces in general there is less to dust.
Willow says
I think this week’s missions will be easier except for the shoes–I don’t have extras right now. I want to finish them all by Wednesday since the donation truck is coming to our house that day. Yay!
Colleen Madsen says
Good for you Willow. I missed the donation trucks when I left America. I doesn’t matter now that I work at the thrift store though.
Deb J says
Hum!!! I’m going to have to think about this a bit. I’m sure I can find something for each day, unfortunately.
Colleen Madsen says
I look forward to hearing about what you come up with. Perhaps you could write the list down and ask your mum if she would like to do the missions this week.
Anita says
I think I can manage all of these except the shoes. I have a weakness for shoes. Maybe I’ll get rid of two things from another category to make up the difference. 🙂
Colleen Madsen says
Ah Anita we have found your weakness. I like your initiative to declutter two of something else instead. If you use all your shoes why declutter any anyway.
Willow says
Does returning books to their owner count for getting rid of books?? Four books are in the car waiting for tomorrow’s drop off.
Colleen Madsen says
I think we could allow you to get away with the Willow since you borrowed rather than bought them in the first place.
Karen says
Thanks, I jumped up & tossed some old socks & underwear, thats Monday done!
Colleen Madsen says
Hi Karen my socks have been decluttering themselves by getting holes this year. Most of them are pretty old so that is understandable. I just haven’t bothered to replace any.
Moni says
Hi Colleen – good to hear you back on air (so to speak) – am having the same thing with socks, obviously all bought at the same time and are all wearing out at the same time.
Colleen Madsen says
Hi Moni, glad to be back, thank you. I figured a long time back that I had too many socks anyway so no problems if some are giving out on me.
Moni says
Worn out clothing? I finish Project 333 end of this week, its been easy but have noticed that there are still clothes that I don’t wear despite being deliberately left in my 33 to force use. So have listed those on trademe. So I’m going to swap worn out clothing for have definate proof that I won’t wear. Will probably hiff out half of the clothes that were put into storage for Project 333, I like my wardrobe arrangement now.
Sanna says
Hi Moni!
Happy to hear that project 333 worked so well for you!
It’s interesting to see that 33 items still may be too many, isn’t it?
Willow says
When I did Project 333, I found it was so easy to get dressed in the morning. Right now, because of the slow change of seasons in SoCal right now, I have more clothes in circulation than usual and I’m finding it is harder and taking longer to decide what to wear every day. I think it’s time to go back to Project 333 and rejumpstart the wardrobe.
Colleen Madsen says
Well done Moni!

OK, I’ve got my weekly ‘line-up’ of stuff almost figured out! 🙂
I just found out that my best-est girlfriend in the entire world had to evacuate her home today (w/ her hubby and kids) due to wild fires in her neck of the woods. 🙁 They got out OK and are safely at another place to stay for a while. She gathered all her photos, important (legal) documents, and a box of her kids baby clothes (that she wants to keep). The rest is heavily insured. They are safe and that right now is all that matters. It sure makes me think what would I grab if I was told by authorities to evacuate. And then when I think of that, I look around at all we do have and want to declutter even more stuff that really doesn’t matter!
Colleen Madsen says
These situations sure put things into perspective don’t they Annabelle.
annabelle says
Colleen,
Good to see you again! Welcome back at the helm!
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Colleen Madsen says
Thanks Annabelle, I am taking it easy though.
Ideealistin says
Oh, cute candle! But of course you are right to let it go if it has no other use than being pretty … I love knickknacks (to a certain degree) and decorating and certainly have (and will keep) some things that have no other job than looking nice. But candles? They should be burned not dusted 😉
Colleen Madsen says
I like that Ideealistin ~ Candles should be burned not dusted, good thinking.
Lisa says
My daughter and one year old grandson have moved in with us for a little while so I’m thinking one toy each day. JK, but babies have alot of “stuff”. Three bags of clothes went to the Salvation Army yesterday. My daughter gave me a Kindle so I’ll start doing some books.
Colleen Madsen says
I think Lisa that babies have a lot more stuff than they really need these days.
Well done with your clothes decluttering and good luck with the books.
annabelle says
So I’ve got Mon (decorative item listed on ebay), Tues (shoes gone), and Wed (books/magazines gone), decluttered. Although the post is already on tomorrow; I’ll wait till my Thursday to take care of Thursdays item.
Friends in our state are being evacuated from their homes; so we’re taking on a few extra people and pets. It is so simple to do this at the last minute because stuff is mostly organized and cleaning house (right now bathrooms) is so simple. Now to run to the store to stock the fridge!
annabelle says
Evacuated due to wild fires (yes, this is Colorado, pray for RAIN!). This evacuation nightmare so many folks are going through really has me thinking about what in life IS necessary and what IS not!!!!
