Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.
The theme for this weeks mini missions is what the items are used for. That should make it nice broad categories for you to find clutter among. So lets get on with it.
Monday – Declutter something for wearing.
Tuesday – Declutter something for cooking.
Wednesday – Declutter something for adorning the home with.
Thursday – Declutter something for adorning yourself with. Jewellery and the like.
Friday – Declutter something used to maintain things. Tools, cleaners and other utilitarian objects.
Saturday – Declutter something meant to entertain you. Books, CDs DVDs, magazines etc
Sunday - Sunday is reserved for contemplating one particular item, of your choice that is proving difficult for you to declutter. Whether that be for sentimental reasons, practical reasons, because the task is laborious or simply unpleasant, or because the items removal requires the cooperation of another person. That last category may mean that the item belongs to someone else who has to give their approval, it could also mean there is a joint decision to be made or it could mean that the task of removing it requires assistance from someone else. There is no need to act on this contemplation immediately, it is more about formulating a plan to act upon or simply making a decision one way or another.

Tuesday: A Tupperware thing for decorative icing. I had kept it thinking it would be easier for my kid to use. Discovered tonight it is rather hard for him to use, so no reason to keep it. We both prefer my nice set. I cleaned that stuff out heavily a while ago, didn’t expect to find something else so soon.
Saturday: I’ve been busy on these. Have half a bag of books for the used bookstore. Some I read and others I decided I never was and one I found was a duplicate! Have several others in progress, so hope to finish that bag off soon.
Will have to mull on the rest. I’m sure there is stuff around here I can find this week that fits.

Oh, Monday, of course. It was the First Annual(?) Kid’s Clothing Swap at work today. I took 2 bags of too small clothes and brought home half a bag of bigger clothes the kid needs. That’s a win.
Wed is not a getting rid of, but we need to put away drop clothes that are now dry. So ceasing to be clutter (and they were dry a week or so ago so well into clutter stage) even if not leaving.

Nice bit of decluttering there Kayote. And who was the clever person who instigated the kids clothes swap at work in the first place. What a great idea.

Hi everybody,
I have read this blog and thoroughly enjoyed it for several months. I don’t think I’ve ever commented but I like to read the comments because they are inspiring 🙂
Mon- drawstring backpack
Tue- chocolate lego man mold
Wed-christmas ornament
Thurs-old bracelet I was “guilted into” keeping but no more!
Fri-i had to get creative with this one… a hospital bracelet I kept for a while because there were emotions attached to it but I’m letting it go! (Maintain yourself- sort of a checkup) lol I tried 🙂
Sat-crocheted baby cowboy booties- sold them (I entertain myself by crocheting sometimes)
Sun- some useful but unnecessary ribbon for wrapping things
Thanks for the encouraging environment here at 365 less things!

Hi Anna and a belated welcome to 365 Less Things. As you say the comments can be very inspiring and are a great asset to my blog. We have a very supportive community here and I hope you will feel very welcome.
Anna says
Thank you Colleen!
Bonus for this week- in the wearing category I guess- I donated 7 handmade bags to Handbags of Hope- an organization that fills them with toiletries and gives them to women in shelters. It is so much easier to let things go when you know they will be a blessing to other people!

I see you left it below. Will use it.

I have never heard of this organization, will have to see if there’s one in my area. You are right about things being easier to let go if you know they are going to be a blessing to others. Thanks for pointing this organization out!

I am loving the variations in your declutter challenge. This may look simple but it actually instills the habit of letting go which is all too essential for the minimalism of your life.
Colleen Madsen says
I agree Daikuro, many of my readers have found the mini missions to be very helpful. Also welcome to 365 Less Things.

HI Naomi and welcome to 365 Less Things. I am a little slack with publishing posts and generally keeping up with things but that is due to a lot of factors. NO the least being am 18 month old grandson who has taken on my home right now for a couple of weeks. However I am glad you are finding 365 Less Things useful.
