Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.
Everyone enjoyed it the last time I had a set of mini missions based on colour, so I thought I would do that again this week. I have chosen a colour for each day and all you have to do is find something to declutter that is that colour. This is a very visual set of missions so that makes it quite easy to spot things to match. So good luck and happy decluttering.
Monday – Declutter something that is yellow
Tuesday -Â Declutter something that is brown
Wednesday -Â Declutter something that is white
Thursday -Â Declutter something that is red
Friday -Â Declutter something that is black
Saturday -Â Declutter something that is green
Sunday - Sunday is reserved for contemplating one particular item, of your choice that is proving difficult for you to declutter. Whether that be for sentimental reasons, practical reasons, because the task is laborious or simply unpleasant, or because the items removal requires the cooperation of another person. That last category may mean that the item belongs to someone else who has to give their approval, it could also mean there is a joint decision to be made or it could mean that the task of removing it requires assistance from someone else. There is no need to act on this contemplation immediately, it is more about formulating a plan to act upon or simply making a decision one way or another.
Random Acts of Miscellaneous Kindness
(Little thoughtful acts for no reason but to make a complete strangers life a little easier.)
If you see someone looking a little lost, when out and about in your town, stop and see if you can help them find what they are looking for.

I like the colour ones Colleen. It is fun to look for things like this. Enjoy everyone.
Colleen Madsen says
Thanks Deb, I like the idea too.
Peggy says
Haha I think I just did every day! I put a box of bulletin board push pins (various colors) in the car along with the bulletin board! Even though I cheated, I will be decluttering throughout the week, never fear 🙂 I threw out one of the blankets because it was a heated throw that no longer heated LOL
Colleen Madsen says
Now that is clever cheating but I bet there wasn’t a push pin for all the colours. I am sure you will make up for it with lots of other imaginative decluttering Peggy.
June says
So far, I found a huge cookbook (white cover), I bought 10 years ago. $35 and never used. I would never do that today. Thanks Colleen for your reminders that we need to be mindful of the things we purchase!
Colleen Madsen says
And thank you June for heeding those reminders, the environment is grateful for it. And thank you for letting me know that you have learned the skill of resisting buying. It warms my heart to know that I am being a good influence of people.

2 black & white coloring books, sent to grand nieces

Colleen Madsen says
Well done Calla, you covered those missions well.
Sally says
Good post Colleen. Here’s mine so far:
Yellow – top I never wear
Brown – trousers that don’t fit
White – paperwork
Red – not sure but I have until Thursday so I’ll get thinking
Black – socks with holes
Green – indoor plants I don’t like
Colleen Madsen says
Well done so far Sally. I see you are another that followed the white mission as I predicted. Paper was what I had in mind when I included that one.
Peggy says
Still working on blankets, getting rid of one white (WED) and one brown (TUE), got rid of a plaid blanket earlier today but it was pink & blue…
Tossed some old shoes my married daughter left here, the finish was peeling off… and will donate her heavy brown clogs (I remember those things clomping around the bathroom early in the morning while I was trying to sleep)…
Donating some file folder tabs in various colors…
Went through my elder daughters craft stuff today & tossed unusable (dry) markers in an assortment of colors… I tested all the markers as I went, then organized all the pencils, markers, crayons, etc. so things could be found as needed.
Colleen Madsen says
Nice effort with the missions there Peggy. I am glad you mentioned the file tabs as I came across some myself yesterday when looking for some thumb tacks and thought about tossing them but didn’t. I will go back now and do just that as I don’t need them and if I have use for some at any point I will just cut some from the endless assortment of crafting paper I have. I will also recycle the old film canister they are stored in.
By the way, I didn’t find any thumb tacks as I had decluttered them all years ago. I improvised as usual. What I was doing was spot cleaning the carpet and wanted to mark the spots I had sprayed so I could easily see where to go back to and scrub after giving the cleaner time to soak in. I used pearl head pins instead. It worked a treat and I wondered why I had never thought to do this before.
Colleen Madsen says
Hear is my effort for the week.
Yellow ~ Piece of Tupperware to daughter.
Brown ~ Wood mounted rubber stamp to thrift shop.
White ~ Tile tabs and film canister they were in to recycling bin.
Red ~ Two items of jewellery to thrift shop.
Black ~ Two more items of jewellery to the thrift shop.
Green ~ Another piece of Tupperware to my daughter.
There were several other items of Tupperware going to my daughter as well. I had been having a trial separation from them for a while and now it is time to let them go. My daughter was more than happy to take them off my hands.
Nicole V says
Hi, Colleen. These are my items:
Yellow: A spaghetti strap tank top
Brown: A pair of taupe loafers
White: Paperwork
Red: A polo shirt – hubby’s
Black: A skirt
Green: A food storage container
Colour me happy. 🙂
Colleen Madsen says
Sounds like the closet has been the focus of your colour decluttering effort for the most part this week Nicole. Well done!
Jeff says
Just another update on our continuing mission to unclutter. Yesterday my wife said, “So how should I clean out my closet/clothes?” I’ve just finished a book that said to take everything out of the closet and choose only what you want to keep and discard the rest. So we did! She was very reluctant to start, but once we did, the process sped up. She ended up with 6 garbage bags of clothes and shoes. We vacuumed the closet and shelves thoroughly and now it is another space entirely- clean, organized, and beautiful. I discarded two bags of clothes/shoes last week as well. To tie in with this week’s theme- all colors of clothes were included!
A couple of weeks ago we took the silver coffee urn set and two plastic crates of memorabilia to my hometown’s historical society- it’s about an hour away from where we live. They were thrilled and I have less in my home to worry about taking care of. I continue to go through that kind of “clutter” and have found a yearbook of the nearby college dated 1908 with my grandmother in the first class held there. Also, I found pictures of the Oklahoma state women’s basketball champions of 1914 from my hometown. A very dear great aunt of my was on the team, and I knew most of the other women as well. I will take these things, and quite a few more pictures next time we head there.
Thanks for listening to this ramble. It helps to talk about the process, I think.

Nicole V says
Hi, Jeff. I enjoyed reading your update – I can just imagine how excited the historical society must have been when they saw the items. 🙂
Colleen Madsen says
Well done as usual Jeff. The Historical Society must love you. And people will be able to enjoy the things you donate to them for years to come.
And WOW! What a difference you and your wife must have made to your closet this week. Well done both of you.
Wendy B says
Today’s color is red so I decluttered a door. It is my front door and it is still attached to the house. For sale sign went up this afternoon! Our next move will be much much much easier than the last one. And much much lighter too!
Colleen Madsen says
Hi Wendy B, it is good to hear from you. I was wondering all weekend as to whether you were anywhere near the wildfires going on over there.
Wendy B says
Hi Colleen, The only wildfire near here is the one we had in our bush a few weeks ago — quickly extinguished and starting to regrow with wildflowers. Scary in its own right but nothing like the fires that rage through the forests.
The big fire is hundreds of km from here, still burning but heading away from the city. Ten to 15% of the city burned, there’s still 80,000 evacuees camped out around the country waiting to be able to return when it is declared safe. People are resilient and pulling together, housing, donating, looking after pets. Disasters are dreadful but have a way of bringing out the best in folks. Thanks for caring.
Colleen Madsen says
Very scary indeed and I am glad the big fire was a long way from you. I thought is was but wanted to check to make sure. And am also glad that the fire that was close was extinguished quickly. To my knowledge it has been a good year for Australia for bushfires this year. Must have had more rain or something. Bit of a change from the last few years.
