Mini Mission Monday ~ Bathroom Cleanup

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

This week’s missions are inspired by what I store in my bathroom. If you have more than one bathroom focus on the one with the most clutter or spread them over both. No offence ladies but it is usually the females in the house with the most bathroom clutter. Be they the mother figure or the daughters from teenage up. However all but maybe Monday’s apply to the guys as well. So lets have at it.

Monday – Go through your makeup items. Declutter any you don’t use anymore.

Tuesday – Declutter any toiletry products you aren’t likely to use because you tried them but didn’t like them. Shampoos, conditioners, bady wash, moisturisers etc. Perhaps donate them to a women’s or men’s shelter.

Wednesday – If you have more towels than necessary declutter a few. They take years to wear out so you won’t be leaving yourself short. Donate good ones to a thrift shop and shabby ones to an animal shelter or the like.

Thursday – Declutter as many items as possible cluttering up your shower recess. Only keep in there what you use very regularly, as excess items get mouldy and soap scummed which can cause odours and harbour germs.

Friday – Declutter any decor items in your bathroom that only serve to collect dust and mildew. Particularly those waxy candles attracting dust on the side of the bathtub. Artificial flower arrangements are also big dust and mildew attractors.

Saturday – Declutter any drugs or first-aid items whether stored in your bathroom or elsewhere.

Sunday - Sunday is reserved for contemplating one particular item, of your choice that is proving difficult for you to declutter. Whether that be for sentimental reasons, practical reasons, because the task is laborious or simply unpleasant, or because the items removal requires the cooperation of another person. That last category may mean that the item belongs to someone else who has to give their approval, it could also mean there is a joint decision to be made or it could mean that the task of removing it requires assistance from someone else. There is no need to act on this contemplation immediately, it is more about formulating a plan to act upon or simply making a decision one way or another.

Good luck and happy decluttering

Eco Tip for the Day

Don’t accept free promotional products that you have no use for. Accepting these just encourages the continuation of this practice while the environment would be healthier without the manufacture of cheap throwaway or needless items like these usually are.

Mini Mission Monday ~ This and that

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

Monday – Declutter a piece of memorabilia. Something that doesn’t mean as much to you now as it once did.

Tuesday – Declutter a tool of some sort. Be it craft, kitchen or garage.

Wednesday – Declutter anything with words on. Book, magazine, T-shirt, old bill…

Thursday – Declutter a use-it-up item that you just aren’t using up regardless of good intentions to do so.

Friday – Trim back something, either by quantity or size, that is taking up more room than you’d like. Yesterday I tripped down some wallpaper samples that I intend to use for card making. They were large and awkward but now they fit in with the rest of my papers.

Saturday – Do a task that will result in something leaving your house. Last week I finished edging some material for a friend which I will give back when I see her next. I also sold one of the items I listed on ebay. And I finally delivered an old broken sewing machine to a man who refurbishes them.

Mini Mission Monday ~ Accumulate

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

I didn’t have a theme for this weeks missions until I realised as I wrote Friday’s mission that most of the items I had mentioned in my list were items that tend to accumulate. Although I suppose clutter in general accumulates but many if the things I mentioned here tend to accumulate over and over again. Sometimes slowly and unnoticed until you eventually realise how numerous they have become. So lets get to reducing their number this week.

Monday - Declutter some digital clutter. Perhaps photos, emails or documents that are no longer needed.

Tuesday – Declutter shabby fabric items other than clothes. Worn out napkins, rags, table cloths, cushion covers…

Wednesday – Declutter plastic items, excess shopping bags, kitchen containers, broken toys…

Thursday – Declutter some paper clutter ~ magazines, paperwork, old tax papers, expired warranties…

Friday – Declutter out of date items ~ drugs, first aid items, pantry foods (spices for example), makeup…

Saturday – Declutter other items that have begun accumulating around your home recently. Perhaps, stationary items, books, hotel toiletries, freebies, unfinished projects, more of any of the items above…

Mini Mission Monday ~ Procrastination

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

We all have those items that we have procrastinated about for some time but are still lingering in our homes. At the moment the items lingering in my home are items we intend to sell on ebay but just haven’t got around to it. I also have some silver jewellery that I haven’t decided how to deal with yet. Anyway enough about me. Do you have any such items either awaiting sale or not dealt with for some other reason. This week is the time to deal with them.

Monday – Do something about selling a clutter items you have been meaning to sell for a while.

Tuesday – Declutter a sentimental item that habit says keep but your mind says is just wasting space.

Wednesday – Declutter an item you have known you no longer want but guilt has had you hanging on to.

Thursday – Declutter a something you have kept out of obligation but really wanted out of your house for some time. Perhaps an unwanted gift or a family heirloom you wish to hand on the responsibility to someone else in the family.

Friday – Declutter clothes of the wrong size that have been stored so long that they are out of fashion.

Saturday – Have a conversation with someone else in the house who is holding on to something that you know they don’t really want to keep but for some reason feels obliged to.

Mini Mission Monday ~ Unclutter, Declutter

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

Hi my lovely 365ers, and what kind of decluttering are you up to this week. Well here I am again to help you along on that task. This week we are going to unclutter and declutter at the same time. That is each day we are going to seek out something in our homes that need putting away ~ that’s the unclutter part ~ then where we put it away we are going to see if we can find something to declutter completely. So every day the instructions will be the same but the state of your home will determine where and what will be unclutter and declutters. So here goes.

Monday – Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Tuesday - Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Wednesday - Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Thursday - Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Friday - Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Saturday - Put away an item out of place in your home then declutter an item in the place that you just rehoused the other item.

Eco Tip for the Day

If you see an item in someone’s junk pile that isn’t junk, salvage it and take it to your local thrift store for resale. You will be rescuing an item from landfill and helping Charity at the same time.

Mini Mission Monday ~ No more procrastination

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

Do you have a few items you have been procrastinating over decluttering for some time. Well perhaps this week is the time to finally bite the bullet and let those annoying suckers go. Start controlling your clutter rather than letting it control you. Take a look at each item with a very critical eye and realise that the world won’t come to a screeching halt should you let it go. I’ll name six areas around your home in which to identify such and items and hopefully you will let these items go.

Monday – Take a look at all your sentimental items. There must be something among them that you really won’t miss.

Tuesday – Have a good look in your kitchen cupboards and drawers. This is usually a hotbed of only slightly useful stuff that you could declutter.

Wednesday – Inspect the tools stored in your garage or other work space. There are usually a few that are a rarely if ever used. Declutter at least one.

Thursday – Declutter  a grooming tool or product that you don’t care much for using. Even I have one of these to declutter.

Friday – Search among your craft/hobby supplies and let go of at least two things you will probably never get around to using.

Saturday – Go through your kids toys and declutter a couple of items they have grown too old for. If you don’t have kids, find something among your own “toys” that has fallen out of favour and declutter it.

Mini Mission Monday ~ Least likely to be used

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

Some items in our homes are plentiful and there is usually some among them that just aren’t necessary to keep. This weeks missions are designed to weed out those least used items from an otherwise useful bunch. Let’s see how honest you can be at letting go of the least useful of these groups.

Monday – Take out the three least used utensils in your kitchen. Really think why you bother to keep them. Declutter the least used item.

Tuesday – Take a look in your closet. Take out the three least used items of clothing. Declutter the least likely ever to be used again.

Wednesday – Take out your three least comfortable pairs shoes. Declutter the pair that you are least likely to wear.

Thursday – Choose three books from your book collection. Declutter the one least likely to be reread.

Friday – Retrieve the three least likely to be used linen items ftom your linen closet. Declutter the one of those that is used the least.

Saturday – Choose three items among your craft supplies. Be that tools or materials. Declutter the least likely ever to be used again.

Mini Mission Monday ~ Contemplating

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

I decided this week that instead of giving a you a list of items to declutter I would give you some food for thought each day. We often don’t give enough thought to the positive side to decluttering, whether some items are really as crucial in our lives as we think, or whether sentimental items are truly meaningful or simply novel.  Perhaps a little focus in these areas might bring an epiphany, or two, that will aid you in letting go of more stuff. Here’s hoping it has the desired effect.

Monday – Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes listing all the positive effects decluttering will have on your life. For example, less cleaning, more space, simplifying choice, ease of retrieval of the useful stuff…

Tuesday – Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes listing the reasons why you should acquire less stuff. For example, save money, work less, environmental reasons, better uses of your time, not accumulating more clutter…

Wednesday - Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes thinking about what your particular clutter weakness is. Knowing this will help you avoid it in the future.

Thursday - Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes thinking about the less useful “time saving” devices in your home and whether they are worth the space they take up. Take into account, storage, cleaning, ease of use, assembly, frequency used…

Friday - Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes thinking about it. Why you are letting it go and what other similar items you have around the house that you could also declutter.

Saturday - Declutter an item of your choice and spend 10 minutes questioning the sentimental attachment to other items you own. Consider whether these items really matter or whether it is just the excitement evoked on the rare occasion that you unearth them.

Mini Mission Monday ~ What’s your clutter made of?

Mini Mission Monday is about finding ten minutes a day to declutter. To make it easy for you, each Monday I set seven declutter missions, one for each day of the week for you to follow. It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

Today’s mini missions are categorised by what they are made of. This gives you a pretty wide scope as to what to let go of that is made from each of these materials. I’ll help you out with some suggestion as to what you might look for but, by all means, use your own imagination. So have fun as you declutter something made from…

Monday – Glass ~ There are no end of things made from glass within the average home. Here are some suggestions of items you might declutter in this category. Drinking glasses, vases, eye glasses (donate these to charity), figurines, computer screens, pictures frames…

Tuesday – Paper ~ This is one of the materials that are really difficult for many people to deal with. Items made from this are either usually loved or hated. Books, magazine, letters and photos can be numerous and cherished, while paperwork is a pain to sort through and deal with. You only need to spend 10 minutes on this so make the most of it.

Wednesday – Metal ~ Once again plentiful. Tools, mixing bowls, utensils, pots, vehicle parts and jewellery all come to mind very quickly but I am sure you can think of more.

Thursday – Fabric ~ Clothes, linen, carpets, blankets, pillows ought to be items easy enough to find. I have something in mind for this one this week.

Friday – Wood ~ Furniture items, kitchen tools (cutting boards, knife blocks, trays, bowls etc), and unused project materials would be  good targets for this mission.

Saturday - Plastic ~ Excess storage containers, toys, bowls and sporting equipment are just a few suggestions but I am sure you can think of many more.

Don’t use throw away cleaning wipes. They have them for cleaning wood, kitchen spills, television screens, make-up removal etc etc. They are usually made from manmade fibres, soaked in chemicals and sold in plastic containers, all of which are bad for the environment. You can do all these jobs with a little water and a microfibre cloth that can be washed and used over and over again.

It takes the guess work out of decluttering and makes it easy and “fun” for you to achieve some quick decluttering.

I’ve said it before and I say it again… One of the most cluttered areas of a home is the kitchen. In our never pending desire to make work as simple as possible we acquire gadget after gadget ~ Of which there are an infinite number of ~ for our kitchens. Not to mention all the paraphernalia required to use these so called simplifying gadgets. Also enough crockery, cutlery, glassware and utensils so that we don’t run out while we fill the dishwasher to capacity. So this week lets see if we can find six items to declutter from this area of our homes.

Monday – Declutter one electric kitchen gadget that wasn’t so time saving or was completely pointless in the first place.

Tuesday – Declutter any crockery that you have too many pieces of.

Wednesday – Declutter any glassware you have more of than you need.

Thursday – Declutter one hand powered kitchen gadget you don’t use enough to warrant wasting the space.

Friday – Declutter utensils that you have multiples of but never need more than one at a time.

Saturday – Declutter kitchen related linen that is surplus to your needs.
